Don’t let naysayers let you doubt yourself.

In the startup world, it is believed by a lot of people that one must not listen to naysayers.  But, whether you listen to them or not, it does impact you and your morale. The first thing that steps in is a bit of doubt on the idea, upon your ability to execute it and the acceptability of your product / service. This creates self-doubt that makes you weak enough to let the fear of failure creep in, which then leads you to the thought of giving it up even before you have tried hard enough.
The one most common attribute that I have observed in people who have succeeded, is the belief they’ve had in what they were doing and the self-confidence that they must give it a try, even if the project does not succeed. They also have a fear, but that fear if of regretting that they did not try. I am no way suggesting taking blind risk.
In “most” cases it is usually a situation / circumstance that the founder experiences in his life that germinates the idea to find a solution to this personal problem or that of the people around him (or her). Many times the founder gets distracted from this “reason” behind the idea and starts seeking logic on its business potential. He forgets “why” he thought of this idea in the first place and starts seeking an answer to why other people have not done it in the past.
I personally think that if ideas to create cool products were just judged by their ability to make revenues and the founders just focused on bottom line alone, we would have never seen awesome products like Twitter and Whatsapp. So, as a startup founders you must never let anyone come and tell you that your product is not cool because it will not generate revenue.
Places you work and people you work for sometimes leave an impact on you, and for me, one such place has been Google, where I learnt that if you create something that will impact peoples’ lives and they use your product, sooner or later, you will find ways to monetise and not only survive but grow.
