Why be your authentic self?

Many of us live false lives on social networks. Rightfully so… because as human beings have been brought up being taught that we must put the best foot forward in front of others. In business also, we sometimes see the attitude of “fake it till you make it”. But, then all this hits us hard as we start getting older and our interactions and conversations become more frequent (though largely on social networks) and we realise how inauthentic we have become. This begins to create an internal conflict between our real self and how the world sees us, and accordingly responds to us. This is what leads to unhappiness and unfulfilled life. We soon start feeling alone and find it hard to identify people with whom we can be our “true” self. Trying to cope up with inauthenticity requires efforts that further lead to regrets, anxiety and sometimes depression.

So start becoming authentic, surround yourself with friends with whom you can share your unfiltered thoughts. You will then start feeling the strength of your close network, a small community within the safe confines of which you can be your “authentic self”, and thus be happy.
